The Owl-Faced Cat
Scottish Folds are instantly recognizable — the ears fold forward and down, giving the face a round, owl-like appearance. The breed descends from a single cat, Susie, born in Scotland in 1961 with a genetic cartilage mutation.
Responsible Breeding Note
The gene that causes the folded ear (osteochondrodysplasia) can affect cartilage throughout the body. Ethical breeding pairs a folded Scottish Fold with a straight-eared cat (Scottish Straight or British Shorthair) — never two folds — to minimize joint issues. We only work with catteries that follow this practice.
Each litter produces both folded and straight-eared kittens. Straight-eared kittens are just as beautiful and entirely healthy — often our favorite recommendation for families who love the look and personality but want maximum health security.
