A Longer-Haired British
The British Longhair is the British Shorthair’s semi-long-haired cousin — same round head, same calm temperament, but with a flowing, plush coat that falls in soft waves. Historically recognized as Highlander in TICA and British Longhair in WCF/FIFe.
Temperament
Identical to British Shorthair: calm, dignified, quiet, content to be near (not on) you. The longer coat does not change the personality at all.
Grooming
Despite the name, the coat is not high-maintenance: one weekly brushing is usually enough to prevent matting. During the spring shed, brush 2–3 times per week. No professional grooming required.
Best For
- Families that love the British Shorthair personality but prefer a longer coat
- Quiet apartments
- Homes with small children — British cats are exceptionally patient
