The Wild Look, Domestic Heart
The Bengal is a domestic cat bred from the Asian Leopard Cat (fourth generation and beyond are fully domestic, TICA-registered). The look is wild — rosetted or marbled coat with a glitter finish that shimmers in sunlight. The personality is all domestic: clever, athletic, and very active.
Not For Every Home
Bengals are extremely high-energy. They need:
- Daily interactive play (30+ minutes)
- Tall cat trees and climbing space
- Puzzle feeders or training sessions
- Ideally, a second cat to wrestle with
Homes that travel a lot or leave cats alone all day are not a good fit. Bengals can become destructive or vocal when bored.
What’s Special
- Can be trained to fetch, sit, high-five
- Often love water (many will join you in the shower)
- Leash-trainable for outdoor walks
- Coat is short and low-maintenance (one brush per week)
- Typically not “lap cats” — but extremely interactive
Color Patterns
- Brown spotted / rosetted (classic leopard look)
- Snow (pale ivory with gray spots, blue eyes)
- Silver (white base with black rosettes)
- Charcoal and Melanistic black (rarer, higher price)
